Paris Saint-Germain welcome Real Sociedad to town on Wednesday looking to avoid a third straight Champions League last-16 exit, and what would be a sixth in eight seasons.

This is Sociedad’s first Champions League campaign in a decade and have acclimatised quickly by topping their group aghead of Inter Milan.

PSG made easy work of Lille at the weekend, recording a 3-1 win, but were without Kylian Mbappe. However, head coach Luis Enrique confirmed the star man “is physically fine and will be available for Wednesday’s game”.

Real Sociedad will be without Arsenal loanee Kieran Tierney through injury, along with Sheraldo Becker, Alvaro Odriozola, Aihen Munoz and Carlos Fernandez. Mikel Oyarzabal is a major doubt but Martin Zubimendi, who is attracting interest across Europe, is fit to start in midfield.

Perennial European underachievers PSG do not have an excuse not to reach the quarter-finals for the first time in three years. Arguably stronger than Sociedad in every position, a healthy first-leg win could even more the return leg next month a dead-rubber.
