The SA20 2024, South Africa’s T20 franchise cricket tournament, will start on January 10 and conclude on February 10.

Organised by Cricket South Africa (CSA), the second edition of SA20 will see as many as six teams compete in a total of 34 matches.

It is the successor of the Mzansi Super League, which ran for two seasons in 2020 and 2021 before being cancelled. SA20, on the other hand, enjoyed success in its very first edition last year and will be looking to build on the inaugural season in 2024.

Durban Super GiantsJoburg Super KingsMI Cape TownPaarl RoyalsPretoria Capitals and Sunrisers Eastern Cape are the six teams that will battle for the title.

All sixes teams are owned by Indian T20 League franchise owners and the sides rope in players through an auction, making it only the second T20 league to follow such a process after India’s T20 League.

Each team is made up of 17 players with the scope of signing up to five international players prior to the auction. These five players can comprise only three international players, one South African international and an uncapped South African.

As per the SA20 2024 schedule, each team will play the other five sides twice in a double round-robin format. The top four teams in the standings after all the league matches will qualify for the playoffs.

The top two teams in the standings will clash in the Qualifier 1 for a place in the final.

The third and fourth-placed teams will face each other in the Eliminator to stay in contention.

The winner of the Eliminator and loser of the Qualifier 1 will square off in the Qualifier 2 for the other spot in the final.

The SA20 2024 final is scheduled to be held on February 10.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape are the defending champions of the SA20 title after beating Pretoria Capitals by four wickets in the 2023 final at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
